What are the Job Duties of a Cashier

The role of a cashier is integral to any organization. The main job duty assigned to a cashier is that of receiving payments from the customers in the form of checks, cash, credit cards, debit cards or vouchers. There are a number of tasks assigned to a cashier including issuing refunds, receipts or credits to the customers, counting the payment amount given by the customers, ensuring that the check out and cash deposit area is clean, providing information related to the prices of different products to the customers, resolving any payment related issue, clarifying any payment related doubt, counting the cash collected during the day, maintaining a record of all the financial transactions, issuing trading stamps, etc.

Candidates having a degree in finance or accounts are mostly preferred for this position. Those having some relevant work experience stand a better chance of grabbing this position in a company of good reputation. Few of the job duties handled by the cashier are mentioned below in detail:

Receiving Payments: The main job duty assigned to a cashier is to receive payments from the customers for the products and services bought by them. The payment may be made via credit card, debit card, cash, check or vouchers. The cashier is required to ensure that the customer pays the right amount for the chosen product or service.

Resolve Billing Issues: Cashier is required to resolve any billing issue being faced by the client.

Issue Receipts: The cashier needs to give the change which is due to the customer. In certain cases he may issue a credit note which might be valid for certain period of time. He is also required to issue receipts and refunds to the customers.

Maintain Record: Cashier is required to maintain a record of all the financial transactions being made during a day.
