Forensic scientist job duties include investigating and providing scientific evidences for various cases being fought in the courts. He is basically involved in studying the contact trace stuff linked with the criminal cases. This field has advanced over the past few years owing to the advancements in the technology; the methods of conducting investigation and studying the cases have improved.

The demand for forensic scientists has also increased as a result of which more and more colleges and universities have started offering different courses in this field. It is essential to pursue a course in this subject from an accredited university in order to get into this position.

Forensic Scientist Job Duties

  • Forensic Scientist is required to study and analyze the case related samples of body fluids, drugs, hair, etc in the laboratory.
  • Forensic Scientist needs to use various techniques like scanning electronic microscopy, genetic fingerprinting, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, etc in order to help in the case investigation.
  • Forensic Scientist needs to check the evidence received by applying the above mentioned techniques.
  • Forensic Scientist is required to visit the place where the crime took place and examine the crime scene.
  • Forensic Scientist needs to record the findings from the crime scenes or other areas under investigation.
  • Forensic Scientist is required to collate the trace evidence from the crime scene.
  • Forensic Scientist is required to accumulate all the data and feed the same into the computer system.
  • Forensic Scientist is required to maintain files of different cases being handled by him.
  • Forensic Scientist needs to give instructions to the laboratory staff for carrying out various tests. He is even required to help them out in testing and observing the samples.
  • Forensic Scientist needs to check the results received from the tests done and write a report on the same so that it can be used in the court.
