Being an Agricultural inspector you must ensure the compliance of the businesses with federal and state laws and regulations that administer the healthiness, quality, and safety of fruit, vegetables, meat, poultry and egg products. You also need to inspect food- and meat-processing plants to assure that the facilities meet up the quality standards.

Job Duties of Agricultural Inspector

  • An Agricultural Inspector’s chief responsibility is to ensure general wellbeing of people by protecting them from food borne diseases.
  • Being aware about the regulations and standards of the federal and state government is also very crucial to implement his duties effectively.
  • He must make frequent visits and make detailed inspections of the product and its surrounds to verify whether a business is following quality and safety standards.
  • He needs to examine facilities and equipments for competence, hygiene, and fulfillment with regulations
  • Collecting samples of pests or suspected ailing animals or materials and sending it to laboratory for identification and examination.
  • Testifying in legal procedures.
  • Giving advice to the farmers and growers on development programs or new equipments and help in quality production, proving agricultural knowledge.

He should examine, weigh, and measure commodities, like poultry, meats, eggs and seafood to certify wholesomeness, weight and grade.
